Henri Dutilleux, one of the most influential and respected composers of the 20th and 21st centuries, has died in Paris aged 97. A prolific composer of mainly instrumental works, Dutilleux received international acclaim in 1951 with his Symphony No.1, the first of two symphonies. He also composed chamber music, concertos and ballet music that show the influence of his predecessors Debussy and Ravel. Dutilleux continued to compose until very late in his life, with a world premiere as recently as January 2013. His reputation with performers and audiences has grown even greater overseas than in his native France.
This year we are celebrating with three of our composers: Diana Burrell turns 65, Edward Cowie 70 and Stephen Montague also celebrates his 70th birthday. Please see our Performance Diary and Latest News page for details of concerts including works by these and other composers published or represented in the UK by UMP.
