Almost a Lullaby (2004) |
For toy piano, wind chimes and music box - c. 5'
First performance: 9 May, 2004, Het Muziekcentrum, s’-Hertogenbosch, Holland, Isabel Ettenauer, toy piano
The word lullaby is a beautiful onomatopoeia in the English language. A lullaby is sometimes called a cradle song whose purpose of course is to lull a child quietly off to sleep. Lullabies are often written in a rocking triple meter, quiet and gently soothing. Almost a Lullaby has some of the hallmarks of a traditional cradle song but wanders a little off the path before finally finding silence.
Almost a Lullaby was written for pianist Isabel Ettenauer and little Valerie.
