The Hammer Hawk (2002) |
for piano, violin, viola (or violin), cello and double bass - c.10'
The Hammer Hawk was a large bird-like creature, part hawk, part lion that dominated the deep, sulphuric skies of primeval Britain. Its eyes were cobalt, its body rusty brown and black. It swooped from the heavens like a thunderbolt – lightning flashed in its wake, the ground shook, its savage cry shattered tree trunks, its wings unleashed tornadoes. But when it slept, decades passed. it purred like a kitten. The earth was quiet. Only the occasional twitch disturbed its amber dreams.
