Snowscape: St. Pölten (2001) |
For string orchestra - c.10'
St Polten is a small Baroque city near Vienna. When I wrote the piece in Janaury 2001 I had romatically imagined a city locked in the gentle fluff of winter's white crystal blanket. Instead, when I arrived for the first rehearsals, the rains had set in and it was not unlike the English weather I hoped I'd left behind. After the performance, however, the rains stopped, it turned cold and the snow flakes began to fall. The work was commissioned by Isabel Ettanauer for the string orchestra of the Musikschule der Kandeshauptstadt St Polten. The first performance was at Buhne im Hof, St. Polten, Austria on the 27 January, 2001 with the composer conducting.
