Soliloquy 3 |
For solo violin
The gift of several commissions for each of the string instruments from the distinguished teacher, David Takeno, provided an opportunity for me to explore each one in a wide range of characterisations, both in expressive intensity and in virtuosity.
In this work the principal statements are intense and passionate. They are linked by virtuoso episodes of differing character; subdued, animated and rhapsodic. This structure is designed to create vivid contrasts of texture and figurative virtuosity. The title of the series is intended as an inducement to soloists to assert their subjective artistry to the full, in the manner of a soliloquy.
