Welcome Dutilleux to Receive RPS Gold Medal
Following the recent success of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Cardiff University School of Music’s 'Discovering Dutilleux Festival', Henri Dutilleux has been honoured with the Royal Philharmonic Society’s (RPS) highest honour, the Gold Medal. The recipient was decided at the RPS’ Annual General Meeting last month, with Dutilleux chosen for the ‘timeless integrity and utmost precision of his work’. Bearing the image of Beethoven, the Gold Medal was created in 1870 to mark the centenary of Beethoven’s birth. It is recognised as one of the highest honours in the music world and recognises the most outstanding musicianship, with fewer than 100 presented in the award’s history. Previous medallists include Johannes Brahms, Edward Elgar, Igor Stravinsky, Michael Tippett and György Ligeti. Dutilleux will receive the Gold Medal on Wednesday 2nd April 2008 at the Wigmore Hall, London, with a concert by the Nash Ensemble. Composer Anniversaries 2008 sees significant birthdays for a number of UMP composers, so it’s time to start planning ahead - Stephen Montague and Edward Cowie will be 65 this year, Diana Burrell will be 60, while Roger Redgate celebrates his 50th birthday. 2008 also marks the centenary of one of the twentieth century's most important composers, Olivier Messiaen. For more on these anniversaries and others, download our latest newsletter, and check the Messiaen performance listings from our menu on the left. Partitura Editions United Music Publishers are pleased to announce the representation of a new catalogue. Partitura Editions offers performance scores for duos, trios and quartets, providing a complete score as a glance, and allowing musicians to play straight from the score.
