... of torn pathways for violin and percussion was composed in 1985 for Alexander Balanescu and Music Projects/London who gave the first performance in December of the same year.
The central core of the material is provided by the violin part which follows its own path of development throughout the work. The percussion material is derived from this core on three levels: isolation, co-existence and integration, creating relative independence or amplification of specific tendencies in the solo line.
...of torn pathways was commissioned by the MacNaghten Concerts, London with funds provided by the Arts Council of Great Britain. It is dedicated to Alexander Balanescu.
